This year’s Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal are set to take place on a larger scale. Hindu organizations have set a target of increasing the number of Ram Navami processions by at least 25%. In the state, Hindu festivals, including Ram Navami, are primarily organized by Hindu Jagran Manch, an organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Additionally, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also plays a significant role in these events. According to sources within the Sangh Parivar, around 815 small and large Ram Navami processions were held across Bengal last year. This year, the number is expected to exceed 1,000. Hindu Jagran Manch spokesperson Kamlesh Pandey stated that the scale of Ram Navami celebrations has been expanding every year.
Last year, processions were held at several locations, accompanied by worship of Lord Shri Ram. This time, the event will be even more widespread. “Given the increasing attacks on Hindu society, people are becoming more organized. We estimate that at least 25% more processions will take place this year,” he said.
Another leader associated with the RSS mentioned that while they do not directly participate in the Ram Navami celebrations, they play a key role in planning and organizing the event. This year as well, the Sangh has called upon Hindus in Bengal to come out in large numbers on the occasion of Ram Navami.
Jishnu Bose, the Eastern Region’s co-publicity chief of the RSS, cited Rabindranath Tagore, stating, “People in other Indian states prepare themselves by following Lord Shri Ram in their personal lives and even in times of war, but Bengali society has lagged behind in this regard. Given the situation in Bangladesh, every Bengali should prepare themselves on Ram Navami and take a vow.”
