Ranbir Kapoor summoned by the ED in the Mahadev online betting app case as a witness
ED aims to investigate the timeline of Kapoor's involvement, the compensation received, and potential contractual agreements
This case has also seen recent raids on the offices of celebrity managers in Mumbai and Delhi
In a recent development in the Mahadev online betting app case, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to record his statement as a witness. Kapoor, who had endorsed the online betting app, is scheduled to appear before the ED on October 6. This move by the ED is part of its ongoing investigation into the illegal money laundering activities associated with the Mahadev Book app.
According to ED sources, the agency is keen to ascertain the timeline of Kapoor's involvement in promoting the app, the monetary compensation he received for these endorsements, and the method of payment, whether through checks or in cash. Additionally, the ED seeks information about individuals Kapoor may have interacted with for promotional purposes and intends to verify if any contractual agreements were made. The Mahadev Book app, linked to money laundering activities, is currently under scrutiny by both the ED and the police.
This high-profile case has also seen recent raids on the offices of celebrity managers in Mumbai and Delhi, leading to the seizure of Rs 2.50 crore in cash. Notably, the extravagant wedding of Sourabh Chandrakar, one of the promoters of the app, drew attention to the massive financial transactions involved, with the ED revealing that Rs 112 crore was paid via hawala to an event management company for the wedding and an additional Rs 42 crore in cash for hotel bookings. With Kapoor and other prominent figures in the entertainment industry expected to receive summonses, the investigation into the Mahadev online betting case continues to unfold, with assets worth Rs 417 crore already seized by the ED
