A Ranchi Bandh has been called for Saturday, March 22, demanding the removal of the Sirmatoli flyover ramp. The protest is being led by Sirmatoli Bachao Morcha, which has been actively voicing concerns about the safety of the Sirmatoli Sarna site and the traditional Sarhul procession.
To ensure minimal disruption for essential services, the Morcha has exempted examinees, ambulances, and medicine shops from the bandh. However, major roads, squares, and intersections across Ranchi are expected to be blocked from 6 AM to 12 PM, potentially causing traffic congestion.
In preparation for the bandh, the Morcha representatives have reached out to various business forums and transport unions for support. Key associations such as the Jharkhand Chamber, Anjuman Islamia, Rospa Tower Shopkeepers Association, Auto Rickshaw Drivers Association, Bus Driver Operators, and Main Road Shopkeepers' Cooperation Committee have been urged to participate in the protest. Letters were sent on Wednesday, requesting full cooperation.
The Sirmatoli Bachao Morcha has emphasized that the bandh will be peaceful, calling upon the people of Ranchi to support their movement. According to them, the ramp of the Sirmatoli flyover poses a threat to the Sarna site and disrupts the traditional Sarhul festival. Removing the ramp is crucial for preserving cultural heritage and ensuring safe public access.
To make their stance clear, the Morcha plans to block key intersections and squares across Ranchi during the bandh. This may lead to major disruptions in transportation and business activities throughout the city. Local authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely to prevent any untoward incidents.
