In a shocking incident from Ranchi, criminals opened fire on a farmer while he was working in his field, leaving him critically injured. The incident took place early Sunday morning in Saher village under the Piska Nagdi police station area.
According to police sources, the victim has been identified as Rajkumar Mahto. Around 8:30 am, he was plucking vegetables in his field when two to three armed criminals arrived on two motorbikes and fired at him without warning. Eyewitnesses say the attackers fled immediately after the shooting.
During the escape, one of the bikes reportedly malfunctioned and failed to start. The criminals abandoned the faulty vehicle and escaped using the other bike. The police have since seized the abandoned motorcycle and are working to trace its ownership to identify the attackers.
Rajkumar Mahto sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and was rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. Doctors have stated that his condition is critical, and he remains under intensive medical care.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident. Several suspects have been detained for questioning based on preliminary leads. Investigators believe the attack may have been pre-planned, though the motive remains unclear at this stage.
Locals in Saher village are in shock following the incident. With the criminals still at large, the community has urged authorities to enhance patrolling and ensure justice for the injured farmer.
