YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has moved the Supreme Court seeking the clubbing of multiple FIRs filed against him over controversial remarks made during a guest appearance on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The case was mentioned before Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, who assured that it would be listed for hearing soon.
The controversy erupted after a clip from the show went viral, where Allahbadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant: “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or join in once and stop it forever?” The remark triggered massive outrage, leading to FIRs being registered across multiple states.
Following public backlash, the Maharashtra Cyber Department took action, registering a case against Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, and other associated artists under various sections of the IT Act. Authorities found that the show’s content included “vulgar and obscene” discussions, prompting a demand to remove all 18 episodes from YouTube.
The Assam Police also joined the probe, issuing fresh summons to Allahbadia and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that an FIR was filed in Guwahati on February 10 against five content creators for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in explicit discussions online.
In response to the backlash, Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging his lack of judgment. Meanwhile, Samay Raina deleted all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel, citing overwhelming pressure. He also assured full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
With multiple legal cases piling up, Allahbadia now seeks relief from the Supreme Court. Legal experts suggest that clubbing the FIRs into a single case could prevent jurisdictional conflicts and streamline proceedings. The court’s upcoming decision will be closely watched as the controversy continues to unfold.
