Ranveer Singh gets interim relief from Karnataka HC over Kantara scene

Actor Ranveer Singh has received relief from the Karnataka High Court in connection with an FIR filed against him for allegedly mimicking the iconic Daiva scene from the film Kantara. The court directed authorities not to take any coercive action against the actor while instructing him to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

The case was filed by a Bengaluru-based advocate, who accused Ranveer Singh of making light of the Chavundi Daiva tradition, which is considered sacred in coastal Karnataka. The complaint stemmed from an incident during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in November, where the actor reenacted the Daiva sequence while promoting his film Dhurandhar. Following widespread criticism on social media, Ranveer Singh had issued a public apology, stating that his intention was to praise the performance of Kantara actor-director Rishab Shetty and not to hurt religious sentiments. The controversy intensified after a video of the act went viral, with objections raised over references made during the performance and the manner in which the scene was enacted.

While granting interim protection, the High Court made it clear that the investigation would continue and that the actor must extend full cooperation to the authorities. The matter is expected to be heard further, with the court’s orders remaining in effect until March 2, 2026.
