India Post's West Bengal Circle has introduced a unique initiative, offering a special courier service for sending renowned West Bengal sweets, including Rasgullas, to international destinations. This service enables residents of West Bengal to share their favorite sweets with loved ones abroad, with the responsibility for packaging resting on the sender.
A senior official from the West Bengal circle of the Indian Postal Department noted that several private courier companies already provide options for sending packaged sweets overseas. However, these services typically come at a higher cost. The Indian Postal Department's offering is expected to be more affordable in comparison.
While the project is promoted with a focus on 'Rasgullas,' the popular Bengali sweet, it also allows the sending of other famous sweets from the region. Even homemade sweets, a common feature during festive seasons, can be sent abroad using this special service, provided they are professionally packaged by the sender. In a related context, the Indian Postal Department had previously celebrated the global recognition of Rasgullas by issuing a stamp and special cover in January 2018, acknowledging Nabin Chandra Das, the eminent West Bengal sweet maker, as the inventor of Rasgullas in 1868.
