India beats Bangladesh by 7 wickets in first T20, chase down total in 11.5 overs
Rishabh Pant received the best fielder of the match medal from former India coach Ravi Shastri after India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs in their Group A match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match took place at Nassau County Stadium in New York, where India restricted Pakistan to 113 for 7 in their 20 overs, successfully defending their total of 119.
Pant, making a sensational comeback to the Indian team after over a year of recovery from accident injuries, took three crucial catches behind the stumps during Pakistan's chase. His 42 runs from 31 balls were pivotal in India's tight victory.
Ravi Shastri, who presented the award on the request of fielding coach T Dilip, became emotional as he recounted Pant's journey. "I had tears in my eyes when I read about his accident. And when I saw him in hospital, it was even worse. For him to come back and play in one of the biggest games of all time – India vs Pakistan – is heartwarming," Shastri said in a video shared by the BCCI.
