Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor on October 20, marking the introduction of high-speed rail connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). During the inauguration, he also flagged off the RapidX train connecting Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, symbolizing the launch of the RRTS in India.
This ambitious project aims to significantly reduce travel times between urban centers, with the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor offering a commute of less than an hour through Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.
The RRTS initiative includes eight corridors planned for development in the NCR, with three prioritized for Phase I implementation. Among these, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor, with a project cost exceeding ₹30,000 crore, stands out. Designed to operate at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour, this high-speed intercity transit system will offer trains every 15 minutes, with the potential to increase frequency as needed. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor's foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Modi on March 8, 2019, making it a significant development in enhancing regional transportation and connectivity.
