The Election Commission has mandated repolling at one polling station each in the Barasat and Mathurapur Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal on Monday, just a day before the vote count. This decision comes after reports of irregularities during the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha polls on June 1.
Repolling will occur at 61 Kadambagachi Saradar Pada FP School, Room No. 2 of the 120-Deganga Assembly Constituency in the Barasat Parliamentary Constituency, and at 26 Aaddir Mahal Srichaitanya Bidyapith FP School of the 131-Kakdwip Assembly Constituency in the Mathurapur (SC) Parliamentary Constituency. The repolling will take place today, as per the schedule provided by the Election Commission.
This decision follows clashes between supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Indian Secular Front (ISF), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the last round of elections. The BJP had raised allegations of rigging and fake voting in multiple booths, demanding re-elections in more than 300 booths, including Diamond Harbour. The Election Commission, after careful scrutiny, decided to conduct a re-vote in these two specific booths. The counting of votes is scheduled tomorrow, June 4.
