A rescue operation is in progress as a person fell into a 40-foot-deep borewell located at a Delhi Jal Board water treatment plant in the early hours of Sunday. The incident, reported around 1am in west Delhi's Keshopur Mandi area, prompted immediate response from rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Delhi Fire Services. Delhi minister Atishi also visited the site to oversee rescue efforts, expressing determination to inspect all borewells in the city within the next 48 hours and hold accountable those responsible for the sewage treatment plant's security lapse.
Delhi Fire Service Chief Atul Garg confirmed the dispatch of five fire tenders to the scene and announced plans for the NDRF team to commence digging a parallel borewell to facilitate rescue operations. Inspector-in-charge Veer Pratap Singh is leading the rescue team, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer assured ongoing efforts to safely extricate the individual from the borewell. In a separate incident last month in Rajasthan's Gangapur city, a 24-year-old woman fell into an open borewell, resulting in tragic consequences despite prompt administrative response led by District Collector Dr. Gaurav Saini.
