Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Traffic on Banaras Road in Howrah came to a halt on Thursday morning after residents staged a protest over the poor condition of the Belgachia-Banmangachhi road. Locals complained of deep potholes across the stretch, many of which have turned into water-filled pits after heavy rain, creating hazards for commuters.
Residents alleged that repeated complaints to the municipality and local administration had gone unanswered. They said the road has not been repaired for a long time, leading to frequent accidents, vehicle overturns, and daily difficulties for school children.
Frustrated with the lack of action, protesters blocked the road, disrupting traffic movement. Police from Batra police station arrived at the spot to pacify the demonstrators, but the crowd remained firm on their demand for immediate road repair and drainage facilities.
Protesters declared that the agitation will continue until the authorities take concrete steps to fix the road and address the waterlogging issue.
