The Mumbai Traffic Police Control Room recently reported a death threat targeting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The threat, sent from an unknown number via WhatsApp on Saturday evening, demanded that Adityanath resign within ten days or face the same fate as former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was assassinated last month. The message explicitly warned, “Resign in 10 days or be killed like Baba Siddique.” This incident has raised security concerns for Adityanath, prompting immediate action by police and security agencies.
Mumbai Police have confirmed receipt of the threat and initiated a full-scale investigation to identify the sender. According to their official statement, “The Traffic Control Room received a death threat regarding UP CM Yogi Adityanath yesterday. The message indicated that if CM Yogi does not resign in ten days, he will be killed like Baba Siddique.” Law enforcement teams are analyzing metadata from the WhatsApp message and using digital forensics to trace the number, while cybercrime units are actively involved in tracking potential connections and motives behind the threat.
The assassination of Baba Siddique, a senior leader in Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, has heightened political tensions. Siddique was fatally shot by three gunmen on October 12 while attending Dussehra festivities outside his son’s office in Bandra, despite being under ‘Y’ category security. His assassination has raised concerns about the safety of public officials and drawn attention to security protocols for high-profile figures in the state. Siddique had reportedly received threats in the weeks before his killing, adding to the urgency of addressing potential threats to other leaders. As a precautionary measure, police have ramped up security for Adityanath and are coordinating with Uttar Pradesh authorities to ensure his safety.
