On January 10, a violent altercation occurred aboard a Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) bus when retired IAS officer R.L. Meena and bus conductor Ghanshyam Sharma became involved in a physical confrontation over a Rs.10 fare dispute. The incident took place on a low-floor bus traveling from Kanota to Nayla in Jaipur.
According to reports, the conflict began when the bus failed to stop at Meena’s designated stop in Kanota and continued to Nayla. After realizing the error, the conductor requested an additional Rs.10 from Meena for the extended distance. Meena objected to the extra charge, which led to a verbal exchange. The situation escalated when the conductor reportedly pushed Meena, who responded by slapping him.
The altercation turned violent as the conductor physically dragged Meena to the back of the bus. Video footage from the scene shows the conductor repeatedly slapping and kicking Meena. In response, Meena attempted to defend himself, retaliating by kicking the conductor. The bus passengers intervened and separated the two before the fight could continue further. No serious injuries have been reported.
Following the incident, Meena filed a formal complaint with the Kanota Police Station, accusing the conductor of assault and misconduct. In light of the complaint, the police began an investigation into the matter. JCTSL also took immediate action by suspending the conductor, Ghanshyam Sharma, pending further inquiry. The suspension order specified that Sharma had engaged in misconduct and physical assault against a senior citizen passenger. During the suspension period, Sharma will receive a subsistence allowance in line with JCTSL regulations.
In addition, the JCTSL issued an official statement confirming the suspension of Sharma and outlined that an investigation into the allegations of assault and misconduct would be conducted. The statement also clarified that the investigation would determine the next steps and whether further disciplinary action would be necessary.
