A retired health department officer, Pati Singh (68), was found dead at his home in Govindpuram D Block on Friday night. His body was discovered naked and covered in blood, with multiple injuries on his head and face. Police are investigating the role of his daughter-in-law, Aarti, and her cousin, who were present at the time of the incident. The case is suspected to be linked to a property dispute, but officials have not confirmed the exact motive.
According to preliminary findings, Singh lived alone after the deaths of his wife and son. On March 15, Aarti moved into the house with her two sons, reportedly after learning that Singh had been living with another woman. On Friday night around 8:30 PM, Singh returned home on his scooter after dinner, where an altercation broke out at the entrance between him, Aarti, and her cousin. Witnesses claim he was attacked with a cricket bat before moving inside the house.
An hour later, a visitor found Singh lying naked and severely injured next to his bed. Anuradha, a tenant on the first floor, alerted the police, following which officials arrived and began questioning those present in the house. No arrests have been made so far, and forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene. Authorities are also examining surveillance footage from the area.
ACP Kavi Nagar Independent Kumar Singh stated, "The elderly man was found naked in his room with injuries on his head and face. The murder appears to be related to a property dispute, but further investigation is ongoing." Officials confirmed that a post-mortem examination is underway, and its findings will provide clarity on the cause and nature of the injuries. Statements from neighbors and family members are also being recorded as part of the investigation.
Authorities have not ruled out other angles in the case, and a detailed probe is in progress. Police are verifying whether previous disputes or financial matters may have played a role in the incident. Singh’s daughter-in-law and her cousin remain under investigation, but no formal charges have been filed yet.
