Kieron Pollard, despite announcing his retirement from international cricket and the IPL, proved that his power-hitting prowess remains undiminished. In a thrilling contest during The Hundred on August 10, Pollard delivered a game-changing performance for Southern Brave, smashing five consecutive sixes off Trent Rockets' ace wrist-spinner Rashid Khan.
The match, held at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, saw Southern Brave chasing a modest target of 127 runs. With 49 runs needed from 20 balls, Pollard stepped up to the occasion. Rashid, who had been economical in his first 15 deliveries, conceding only 10 runs and taking one wicket, found himself on the receiving end of Pollard's onslaught.
Pollard launched his attack with a powerful shot over the cow corner and long-off for the first two sixes. He followed it up with a straight hit back over Rashid's head, another over deep mid-wicket, and capped it off with a final six towards long-off. This explosive over dramatically reduced the run requirement to just 19 from 15 balls, turning the tide in Southern Brave's favor.
Despite being run out by Calvin Harrison after a quick-fire 45 off 23 balls, Pollard's efforts set the stage for Chris Jordan, who sealed the victory with a boundary off the penultimate ball. Southern Brave secured the win with just one ball to spare, thanks to Pollard's electrifying performance.
