Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
In a major response to the widespread outrage and protests following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the West Bengal government has removed key officials of the medical college and hospital including its new Principal Dr. Suhrita Paul. She was terminated for reportedly handling the RG Kar crisis from Health Department headquarters.
Health Secretary, Narayan Swaroop Nigam, announced the removal of Dr. Suhrita Paul from her position as the Principal of RG Kar Hospital. Alongside her, the Vice Principal of the Medical College, MSVP Dr. Bulbul Mukhopadhyay, and Dr. Arunabh Dutta Chowdhury, head of the chest medicine department, were also relieved of their duties. These removals come after persistent demands from the students, who have protested since the tragic incident.
In a swift move, Dr. Shubhashish Chakraborty has been appointed as the new principal of RG Kar Hospital. The government has instructed him to assume charge immediately to restore normalcy and address the ongoing crisis at the hospital. Additionally, On Wednesday, The West Bengal Health Department removed Sandip Ghosh, who is under investigation by the CBI.
