Srinjay, the son of Rinku Majumdar—wife of BJP leader Dilip Ghosh—from her previous marriage, was found dead on Tuesday morning at his flat in the Shapoorji Housing Complex in New Town. The body was recovered under mysterious circumstances, prompting a police investigation. Initial reports indicated possible suicide, but police have not confirmed any cause of death and are awaiting the post-mortem report.
A social media post by someone identifying as a close friend of Rinku, using the name "Main Jhuma", claimed that Srinjay had been under severe emotional and financial stress due to his girlfriend. The woman in question is said to be a resident of Gachtala in Netaji Nagar and employed in New Town’s IT sector. According to the post, she did not pay for her own travel and regularly demanded money from Srinjay, reportedly ₹300 to ₹400 per visit.
The post further alleged that the woman falsely messaged Rinku claiming Srinjay owed her money. It also mentioned that Rinku proposed marriage between her son and the woman on multiple occasions, but the woman declined each time. The friend claimed that despite objections, the woman continued visiting Srinjay’s flat, increasing his emotional burden over time.
It was also claimed that Srinjay had been suffering from several physical health issues, although no specific conditions were mentioned. These health complications, combined with the alleged ongoing pressure from the relationship, were cited in the post as contributing factors to his deteriorating mental state. However, no official medical confirmation has been provided regarding his health.
Trinamool Congress leader and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh shared the post on his social media account and expressed condolences to Rinku Majumdar. He wrote, “My deepest condolences to Rinku Majumdar, who is grieving the loss of her son. Political differences are one thing, but in times of sorrow, humanity comes first.” He also criticized individuals who made personal remarks about Rinku following the incident, calling such trolling “shameful.”
Police officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of Srinjay’s death. The post-mortem examination and analysis of his mobile data are expected to provide more clarity in the case. Authorities have not made any arrests or publicly named any suspects as of now.
