Police in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district have registered a case against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav for posting an alleged objectionable comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. The complaint was filed by BJP MLA Milind Narote, following which an FIR was lodged on Friday.
According to officials, Yadav had shared a cartoon on his social media account ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s rally in Gaya, Bihar. The cartoon showed Modi depicted as a shopkeeper under a signboard that read “famous shop of rhetoric.” In an accompanying post in Hindi, Yadav wrote that “a shop of lies and rhetoric” would be set up in Gaya and called on Modi to give an account of his 11 years in office and the NDA’s 20 years of governance in Bihar.
The post further stated, “Prime Minister ji, in Gaya, with a boneless tongue, you will build a Himalaya of lies and rhetoric today, but the justice-loving people of Bihar, like Dashrath Manjhi, will break down these massive mountains of your lies and rhetoric. Give an account of your 11 years and the 20 years of the NDA government's rule.”
Based on Narote’s complaint, the Gadchiroli police registered the FIR under sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups), 356 (defamation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 353 (statements causing public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials confirmed the case was filed late Friday and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, during his rally in Bodh Gaya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress and RJD of treating the people of Bihar only as a vote bank. He referred to a 2022 remark by former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who had said people should not “let UP, Bihar ke bhaiya enter Punjab,” calling it an example of contempt towards Bihari migrants.
