The RJD leader was abducted from his residence here at 4 am on Tuesday. The kidnappers, who came in an SUV with masks and weapons, abducted Sunil Kumar Rai from his house in Sarha under Mufussil police station in the city.
The leader's father Ram Vilas Rai said Sunil received a call at around 4 am. The caller asked him to come out of the house. When he came out, Sunil was forcibly taken to an SUV parked there. Later, the police found his cell phone in a damaged state outside his residence. CCTV footage from the area shows the criminals forcibly taking Sunil inside the vehicle.
Sunil was an active member of RJD but left the party during the 2020 assembly elections as RJD denied him a ticket to contest from Chhapra seat. But later he returned to the party. He was currently engaged in property deals.
Saran SP Gaurav Mangala has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to crack the case. The investigation team spoke to Sunil's family members to gather information. The SIT has taken CCTV footage to study the footage. Some locals claimed that Sunil was beaten up when he was kidnapped.
