West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose's sudden resignation on Thursday has led to the immediate appointment of RN Ravi as the interim Governor of the state. RN Ravi, who is currently serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been given the additional responsibility of West Bengal by the President of India. This move ensures that there is no constitutional vacuum in the state, especially with the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching rapidly.
RN Ravi is a former IPS officer with an extensive background in national security and administration. Before his tenure in Tamil Nadu, which began in September 2021, he served as the Governor of Nagaland and was a key interlocutor for the Naga peace talks. His appointment to Bengal comes at a time when the relationship between the Raj Bhavan (now Lok Bhavan) and the state government has been historically tense, much like the situation he has faced in Tamil Nadu.
