Robert Vadra arrives ED office in land deal case, calls the summon

Businessman Robert Vadra, who is also the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in Delhi for questioning in connection with a money laundering case linked to a controversial land deal in Haryana’s Gurugram district. This marks the first time Vadra has been summoned in this particular case, which originates from a 2018 FIR registered by the Haryana Police.

The case revolves around a land transaction in Shikohpur village, where allegations of irregularities led to a money laundering probe by the ED. Officials stated that their investigation stems from the FIR filed by the Haryana Police, but did not share further details on the evidence or timeline. The matter has gained renewed attention following Vadra’s recent remarks about potentially entering active politics.

Just a day before his appearance, Vadra publicly expressed his willingness to take a political plunge. He said he would join politics if the Congress party saw fit and if he received his family's blessings. This statement was widely seen as a signal of his growing visibility within the party, especially with the Lok Sabha elections nearing.

Speaking to the media outside the ED office, Vadra claimed the summons were part of a larger political conspiracy. “We told the ED we were organizing our documents. I am always ready to be here... I hope there's a conclusion today. There is nothing in the case,” he said. Vadra also accused the BJP-led government of using central agencies to suppress dissent and hinder political opponents.

Calling the summons a "political vendetta," Vadra alleged that they are targeted through investigative agencies whenever he or other opposition leaders speak in support of the country or against the ruling party’s policies. “When I speak in favor of the country, I am stopped, Rahul is stopped from speaking in Parliament... BJP is doing it,” he said.
