The Railway Protection Force (RPF) achieved a significant breakthrough by recovering 6.4 kg of silver bars from a passenger during a routine security check at the Howrah Metro Station. The incident occurred on July 13, 2026, at approximately 1:03 pm. On-duty RPF personnel flagged the commuter's luggage after spotting highly suspicious metallic objects while scanning the passenger's bag through the station's security scanner system.
Following the visual detection, security officials immediately identified the commuter and subsequently reported the entire matter to the Golabari Police Station for localized jurisdiction support. A thorough physical search and an initial interrogation were conducted on-site in the direct presence of senior police personnel. The joint operation led to the formal recovery of the silver bars, which possess an estimated domestic market valuation of ₹13.88 lakh.
After completing all the mandatory legal formalities at the transit point, the RPF authorities officially transferred custody of both the detained passenger and the seized silver bars over to the civil police division for further statutory legal action. This high-profile intercept follows closely on the heels of a massive precious metal seizure earlier this month in Guwahati, where local police forces acting on precise intelligence inputs successfully recovered over 37 kg of illegal gold worth ₹54 crore from the Kharghuli area.
