Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times during an attempted burglary at his Bandra residence early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at around 2:30 AM when an unidentified intruder broke into the house. A confrontation ensued after the intruder argued with a household staff member, prompting Saif to intervene. During the scuffle, the intruder attacked Saif with a knife and fled the scene immediately.
Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where doctors treated six stab wounds, including two deep cuts. One of the injuries was dangerously close to his spine. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s COO, stated that a two-and-a-half-hour surgery was successfully performed to stabilize Saif’s condition. He is now in recovery and under observation.
At the time of the incident, Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, was not at home. She was out with her sister Karisma Kapoor and friends. Their children, Taimur and Jeh, were present in the house but were unharmed. Kareena rushed to the hospital upon learning about the attack. A statement from the family confirmed that Saif is recovering and that the investigation is ongoing.
The Mumbai Police have registered an FIR and detained three household staff members for questioning. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam stated that efforts are underway to identify the attacker and determine how the security breach occurred. Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage from the residence and surrounding areas for leads.
The incident has also sparked a political debate, with politicians expressing concerns about the safety of citizens, particularly in high-profile areas like Bandra. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi called the attack a serious lapse in security and questioned the effectiveness of measures to protect residents. She stated that if high-profile individuals are not safe in their homes, the safety of ordinary citizens becomes a bigger concern. NCP (SP) leader Clyde Crasto echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the need for stronger law enforcement to deter such crimes.
Authorities have assured the public that steps will be taken to address the security concerns in Bandra and similar areas. The police investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect and gather more evidence.
