Sajal Ghosh face protest during BJP's Baranagar meeting; TMC-BJP workers clash

A "Paribartan Sabha" organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Motilal Mallick Lane area, under Ward No. 12 of Baranagar Municipality, turned into a battlefield on late Monday evening. The situation escalated when a group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers, led by local Councillor Sanchita De, arrived at the venue. The TMC supporters began chanting slogans against the BJP, labeling the party workers as "outsiders" and demanding they leave the locality immediately.

The tension reached its peak when senior BJP leader and KMC Councillor Sajal Ghosh arrived at the meeting spot. He was immediately surrounded by TMC activists who staged a vociferous protest, leading to a heated verbal altercation between the two factions. BJP supporters retaliated with their own slogans, and the two groups were seen engaging in a physical standoff, nearly coming to blows before the situation was temporarily contained.

Local sources report that both parties engaged in a high-decibel slogan war, accusing each other of disrupting the peace of the neighborhood. The TMC leadership claimed that the BJP was trying to incite trouble by bringing in people from outside the ward, while the BJP maintained that the ruling party was trying to suppress democratic voices through intimidation and "hooliganism." The presence of Sajal Ghosh acted as a lightning rod for the pre-existing political friction in the area.

To prevent the situation from spiraling into further violence, a large contingent from the Baranagar Police Station was rushed to the spot. The police had to form a human chain to separate the clashing cadres and ensure the safety of the leaders present. While the initial flare-up has been brought under control, a heavy police presence remains in Motilal Mallick Lane to prevent any retaliatory strikes or further unrest between the two political rivals.
