The deteriorating condition of Salt Lake’s GD Market has now turned life-threatening. While repair and construction work has been carried out in some parts of the market, the remaining sections still stand in a dilapidated state. In certain areas, iron rods hang dangerously from the ceiling, posing a serious risk, while elsewhere, walls are being forcibly held up by pillars to prevent collapse. Shopkeepers and customers who frequent the market daily live under constant fear. Local residents allege that the civic body began the repair work but halted it midway without completion. As a result, half the market is newly renovated, while the other half has become even more hazardous than before.
