Mamata Banerjee releases song for Chhath Puja, played at ghats across Bengal
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially filed a charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, a civil volunteer with the Kolkata Police, in connection with the shocking rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The incident, which occurred on August 9, had sparked outrage across West Bengal and led to widespread demands for justice from the medical fraternity and the public.
Sanjay Roy stands accused of sexually assaulting and murdering the young doctor inside the hospital’s seminar room, where she had gone to rest during a marathon shift. The heinous crime took place after midnight, and her body was discovered by a junior doctor the following morning. The post-mortem report revealed that the victim had sustained 25 internal and external injuries, confirming both sexual assault and homicide.
The CBI charge sheet outlines crucial evidence, including CCTV footage showing Roy entering the seminar room at 4:03 am on August 9 and leaving the scene after about 30 minutes. The footage played a pivotal role in establishing Roy’s presence at the crime scene during the critical time frame of the attack.
In addition to the video evidence, investigators found a pair of Bluetooth headphones belonging to Sanjay Roy at the crime scene, further linking him to the tragic event. The discovery of his personal belongings, alongside the forensic findings from the post-mortem, provided crucial leads that led to his arrest.
Roy, who was familiar with the hospital premises due to his frequent visits as a civil volunteer, had managed to gain access to restricted areas, including the seminar room where the crime took place. His role as a Kolkata Police volunteer added an unsettling dimension to the case, leading to heightened concerns about safety and security within medical institutions.
