Mamata Banerjee releases song for Chhath Puja, played at ghats across Bengal
Sanjay Roy, the civic volunteer accused in the RG Kar case has retracted his earlier confession. Initially expressing a desire for capital punishment during police interrogation, he now claims innocence and asserts that he knows nothing about the incident. This change in stance raises significant concerns regarding the reliability of his previous statements.
Last Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a chargesheet in the Tilottama case, naming Roy as the main accused. This document outlines critical evidence and witness testimonies, underscoring the severity of the charges against him. On Tuesday, the accused was presented with the chargesheet during his court appearance at Sealdah, after which the case was transferred to the Sessions Court for trial. A hearing date will be set following the Puja holidays.
During the court session, the accused requested to speak, stating, "Sir, I have something to say." While the judge permitted him to express himself, he clarified that such discussions should typically occur through legal counsel. The judge assured the accused that his lawyer could help convey his concerns appropriately. Despite his insistence on innocence, stating, "Sir, I have not done anything, I do not know anything about the incident," Sanjay’s claims add complexity to a case already mired in controversy.
