Santragachhi Station’s modern upgrade enters final phase with completion targeted by 2026

Santragachhi railway station is undergoing a comprehensive modernization to address the increasing passenger load on Howrah station due to population growth and rising traveler numbers. The South Eastern Railway has initiated this development to transform Santragachhi into a major passenger hub equipped with modern infrastructure and facilities.

A new multi-story railway complex has been constructed near the Kona Expressway, featuring a new ticket counter beneath platform number 8 and an expanded car parking area. This allows passengers to easily access their vehicles immediately after disembarking from trains. The main station building is connected to platforms via escalators and sloped ramps designed for carrying luggage, which link directly to the foot overbridges.

Two double-lane foot overbridges have been built spanning from platform 1 to platform 8, providing a secure and convenient passage for passengers moving across the station. To ensure safety, the entire station premises are under extensive CCTV surveillance. While escalators are already functional at platform 8, lift installation work is currently in progress to further improve passenger accessibility.

Omprakash Charan, Chief Public Relations Officer of South Eastern Railway, stated, "Our goal is to transform Santragachhi station into a modern, secure, and convenient passenger hub. Work is progressing rapidly in this direction, and we are also enhancing subway facilities to improve commuter convenience."

The project experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic but has resumed full pace. Completion of the renovation is expected by the end of 2026. Upon completion, the upgrade will reduce congestion at Howrah station and provide passengers in the region with enhanced travel comfort and convenience.
