Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A deputy jailer posted at the Central Jail in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna has married a former inmate who had served a 14-year prison sentence in a murder case. Assistant Jail Superintendent Firoza Khatoon married Dharmendra alias Abhilash on May 5 at a marriage venue in Chhatarpur district. According to available information, the two came in contact while Dharmendra was serving his sentence at the Satna Central Jail and later developed a relationship.
Dharmendra, a resident of Chandla in Chhatarpur district, had been convicted in a murder case linked to the killing of a municipal councillor in 2007. He was released from prison in 2020 after serving nearly 14 years in jail. During his imprisonment, he reportedly worked with prison authorities on warrant-related duties, which brought him into regular contact with Firoza Khatoon, who was then serving as warrant in-charge at the prison.
According to sources, the relationship between the two gradually developed over time and they later decided to marry after Dharmendra’s release from prison. The wedding ceremony was conducted according to Hindu rituals and traditions. Sources said the bride’s family did not attend the wedding as they were reportedly opposed to the interfaith marriage. Firoza Khatoon later stated that the marriage was her personal decision and that both were happy with the relationship.
Officials at Satna Central Jail confirmed that Firoza Khatoon had gone on leave ahead of the wedding. Jail Superintendent Leena Kosta stated that the deputy jailer had informed authorities about her marriage plans and was currently on leave for approximately 10 days. She also described the marriage as a personal matter concerning the officer’s private life.
The marriage has drawn attention across the region because of the unusual circumstances surrounding the relationship between a prison officer and a former inmate. According to information available, several prison officials, employees and individuals associated with the jail administration extended greetings to the newly married couple after the ceremony.
