Satya Pal Malik summoned by CBI in Reliance Insurance case: Report

Days after Karan Thapar's explosive interview to a report, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the Reliance insurance proposal, which he reportedly shot down.

The questioning will be on the Reliance Insurance matter, which was the plan that RSS and BJP leader Ram Madhav allegedly forced Malik to go through when he was the governor of Jammu and Kashmir, according to reports. "The CBI wants some clarifications in connection with the case I have reported," former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik

In an interview with Thapara, Malik spoke about the deal and said that RSS and BJP leader Ram Madhav paid the then Governor of Jammu and Kashmir a special visit to try to get him to go through with the scheme proposed by Reliance Insurance, but the latter canceled it.

"Initially I went through this scheme, but many people asked me to take it back. The first thing that happened was that the government employees were really unhappy with the coming of the scheme. This was because all government employees had to pay Rs 8,500 for year." The retired officers had to give more than Rs 20,000,” he said in the interview, according to the transcript.

In 2022, Malik was summoned by the CBI as a witness in the same case.

Satya Pal Malik served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir at the time of the abrogation of Article 370, before the former militarized state was bifurcated and reduced to a Union Territory. He dissolved the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and was acting governor during the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019.
