SC grants interim protection to Ranveer Allahbadia says,

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted protection from arrest to YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as 'BeerBiceps', in connection with multiple FIRs registered against him. The FIRs were filed in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Jaipur over crass jokes he made on comedian Samay Raina's 'India's Got Latent' show. While providing him interim relief, the apex court strongly criticized his remarks, calling them a reflection of a "pervert" mind.

A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh heard Allahbadia’s plea to club the FIRs. The court observed that his comments had brought shame to society and needed to be condemned. The judges remarked that being popular does not grant someone the right to make degrading statements and that the YouTuber had "vomited dirt in his mind."

Despite the court's stern criticism, it granted Allahbadia protection from immediate arrest, allowing him time to present his defense. However, the court made it clear that such behavior could not be excused under the guise of humor or social media influence. The judges emphasized that freedom of speech comes with responsibility, especially when content reaches a vast audience.

The controversy erupted after Allahbadia's appearance on 'India's Got Latent,' where he made comments that many found offensive. The remarks led to widespread backlash, resulting in multiple complaints and FIRs in different states. Following the uproar, Allahbadia issued a public apology, stating that his statements were taken out of context and that he did not intend to offend anyone.

Legal experts suggest that while Allahbadia's relief from arrest is temporary, he may still face legal consequences as the case progresses. The court’s sharp remarks indicate a growing concern over the misuse of digital platforms for content that crosses ethical boundaries. Many social media users and activists have also called for stricter content regulation to prevent such incidents in the future.
