SC orders Centre to appoint nodal officer for removal of posts revealing RG Kar victim's identity

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Ministry of Electronics and IT to appoint a nodal officer to monitor any unauthorized use of the victim's name or photo in the media related to the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case.

The court reaffirmed its previous order, prohibiting intermediaries from publishing the victim's identity.

A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, began hearing the suo motu case regarding the rape and murder of a postgraduate medical student at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College.

The court had earlier expressed concern over the CBI’s status report findings but withheld details to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.
