"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A major controversy erupted in the Ghatal area after local residents and a Trinamool Panchayat Samiti member opened a locked Trinamool Congress party office and allegedly recovered school uniforms, health insurance cards, bed sheets, and packets of condoms from inside the premises. The incident took place on Wednesday morning in the Radhanagar area, where locals broke open the office lock after the recent political change in the state. According to local sources, the office had remained closed for a considerable period. Following the recovery of the items, local BJP workers also arrived at the scene, intensifying political tensions in the area.
Residents alleged that fear and political pressure had prevented people from speaking openly in the past. Several local women accused certain Trinamool leaders of intimidation, political coercion, and depriving opposition supporters of government benefits. One resident alleged that threats had been issued before elections, while another claimed her family’s house was vandalized after the 2021 elections because of their political affiliation. Questions were also raised by locals regarding the presence of school uniforms, health cards, and other materials inside the party office. Allegations were additionally made regarding the storage and alleged sale of condoms from the premises.
Trinamool Panchayat Samiti member Vijay Mandi stated that he opened the office after being instructed to do so and said he could not explain why the items were stored there. Regional president Prashant Roy could not be contacted for comment, while Trinamool Ghatal Block President Dilip Maji stated that the matter would require investigation before any conclusions could be drawn. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Sheetal Kapat strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict action. Police deployment in the area remained under observation as political reactions intensified following the recovery of the materials from the party office.
