Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
At least 28 school students were injured, eight of them critically, after a school vehicle crashed into a stationary dumper on a national highway in the Palashi area under Kaliganj police station in Nadia district. The injured were rushed to Murshidabad Medical College, where those in serious condition are undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary information, the dumper was travelling from the Rejinagar side when it was allegedly stopped on the roadside. The school vehicle, carrying around 28 students, rammed into the stationary heavy vehicle from behind. The impact left several children severely injured, triggering panic in the area.
The incident soon escalated into unrest, with locals blocking the national highway in protest. Demonstrators alleged that the dumper had been halted by police during roadside checking, which led to the sudden obstruction. Some eyewitnesses further claimed that the vehicle was stopped abruptly, leaving the school driver with little time to react, resulting in the collision.
Tension intensified as clashes broke out between residents and police personnel trying to clear the blockade. The road remained disrupted for nearly an hour as authorities struggled to restore normalcy. No official statement has yet been issued by the police regarding the allegations, and the situation remains under close watch.
