Schools in Patna to remain closed till June 24

All schools in Patna will remain closed till June 24 due to prevailing heat conditions despite the onset of monsoon earlier this week. The district magistrate's order bans academic activities in all private and government schools up to class 12, including pre-schools and Anganwadi centers in the district.

In an order dated June 16, the district magistrate said the decision was taken in view of the "prevailing heat wave and high temperatures in the district" and that "the health and lives of children are at risk".

"That's why I, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Singh, District Magistrate, Patna, under Section 144 of the Penal Code, 1973 hereby prohibits the academic activities of all private, government schools (including pre-school and Anganwari Centre) of Patna district. to class XII until 06/24/2023," the order said.

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, the Southwest Monsoon entered the state on Monday.

Ashish Kumar, Senior Meteorologist, Patna Meteorological Centre, said, “Southwest Monsoon arrived in the state a day ahead of the normal date. The crash was witnessed in Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj and Katihar. In the last 17 years, the earliest onset of monsoon over the state was in 2006 when the rainy season began on June 6.
