Angry mob vandalises TMC leader's house, sets fire over corruption allegations
A tense situation developed outside Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata following the arrival of Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Friday. According to information available, a scuffle broke out between two groups near the main airport gate, prompting security personnel to escort Banerjee out through an alternate exit as a precautionary measure. The incident led to heightened security arrangements in and around the airport premises as authorities moved to prevent any further escalation.
According to sources, a group of protesters had gathered outside the airport carrying eggs, following which an argument allegedly broke out between opposing groups. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in commotion near the airport entrance. Upon receiving information about the incident, Dum Dum MLA Arijit Bakshi arrived at the airport and reviewed the situation. He condemned the disturbance and called for strict action against those responsible.
The two sides offered differing accounts of the incident. Protesters alleged that supporters of Abhishek Banerjee assaulted ordinary citizens during the confrontation. Trinamool supporters, however, claimed that BJP supporters had deliberately attempted to create unrest and disrupt the atmosphere outside the airport. Arijit Bakshi stated that any breach of law and order within the airport premises was unacceptable and demanded that all individuals involved in the incident be identified and arrested within 24 hours.
