A major fire broke out at a flex print factory in the Haloflex Gram building near Philips More in Salt Lake Sector V on Friday afternoon. This incident marks the fourth fire in four consecutive days in Kolkata. Eyewitnesses reported multiple explosions as black smoke rapidly spread through the area. The fire triggered panic in the surrounding localities, and emergency response units rushed to the spot.
According to the fire department, six fire engines were deployed to control the blaze. Initially, water was sprayed from outside the premises, as the fire was too intense for personnel to enter. Firefighters were later seen using hose lines from nearby multi-storey buildings to contain the flames. A thick cloud of black smoke enveloped the area, reducing visibility and raising concerns about the presence of inflammable substances inside the factory.
Authorities confirmed that a significant quantity of flammable materials was stored inside the facility, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The cause of the explosions remains unclear. Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose and Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh reached the location to assess the situation. No information has been released yet regarding injuries or casualties.
Sujit Bose stated, "Firefighters are trying to bring the fire under control," and added, "The next course of action will be taken after reviewing the situation." Fire personnel have not been able to enter the core of the factory due to the intensity of the flames. Officials stated that efforts to bring the fire under control are ongoing.
