Five foreign terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara area on Friday morning. A massive search operation is underway in the region, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed.
There was an encounter between terrorists and security personnel in Kupwara Jumagand area, J&K Police confirmed earlier in the morning.
According to reports, the incident was the first major infiltration attempt this year from Kupwara sector in Kashmir.
"Encounter started between terrorists and joint forces of army and police at a specific entry of Kupwara police in Jumagund area of ceasefire in Kupwara district. More details to follow," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted in the morning.
On June 13, two terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the border area of Kupwara district.
"Two terrorists have been neutralized in a joint operation by Army and Kupwara Police in Dobanar Machhal (LoC) area of Kupwara District. Search is still on," the Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet on Tuesday.
