Security intensified at New Jalpaiguri station after Pahalgam terror attack triggers nationwide alert

In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the death of innocent civilians, security has been tightened across the country, including at New Jalpaiguri station—considered the gateway to North Bengal. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has enforced strict surveillance measures under the leadership of the station inspector. Entry and exit points are under close watch, and all platforms and tracks are being regularly monitored.

A 24-hour joint patrolling initiative by the RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) has been launched to enhance security visibility across the premises. Passengers and their luggage are being subjected to increased screening, with special checks being conducted at strategic points. The RPF inspector confirmed that a special search operation is underway to ensure passenger safety, adding, “This special operation is being conducted keeping in mind the safety of the passengers.”

While no direct impact from the Pahalgam incident has been observed in the region, security officials have been instructed to remain alert. Coordination between railway authorities and local police has been strengthened, with security drills and inspections continuing throughout the day and night. All ongoing efforts are focused on maintaining uninterrupted and safe railway operations.
