Security arrangements have been intensified in Malda ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on January 17. As part of the preparations, a mock drill involving an Indian Air Force helicopter was conducted on Thursday afternoon at a field near the Sahapur Bypass under Old Malda police station limits.
According to reports, the drill was aimed at finalising security protocols for the Prime Minister’s arrival. A special helipad has been set up near the Sahapur Bypass, where the Air Force helicopter carried out test landing and take-off operations to ensure safety and readiness.
The exercise also reviewed emergency response time, inter-agency coordination and the overall strength of the security cordon. In view of the high-profile visit, the area has been placed under tight security, with intensified checks using metal detectors and sniffer dogs at the rally venue and nearby locations.
