A senior officer of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Deputy General Manager Kumar Gaurav, was shot dead on his way to work in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh on Saturday morning. The attack occurred at around 9:30 AM when unidentified assailants opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured.
Kumar Gaurav, who was posted at NTPC’s Kerendari office, suffered a gunshot wound to his back. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Following the incident, Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police (SP) Arvind Kumar Singh confirmed that a search operation has been launched to track down the attackers.
The shooting took place in the Hazaribagh-Barkagaon region, an area that has witnessed similar attacks in the past. Nearly two years ago, the general manager of Ritwik Company was shot dead in the same vicinity, raising serious safety concerns for officials working on infrastructure projects.
NTPC is actively involved in several power and coal projects in the Barkagaon and Kerendari regions, making them high-risk zones for employees traveling for work. The motive behind Kumar Gaurav’s killing is yet to be ascertained, but preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of criminal groups operating in the area.
Following the incident, NTPC officials and employees have expressed growing concerns over safety, urging the administration to enhance security measures for officers working in high-risk zones. Local authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the attack.
The police investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected as authorities intensify their search for the culprits. The incident has once again highlighted security risks in Jharkhand’s industrial and infrastructure corridors, prompting demands for increased police vigilance in the region.
