Senior Supreme Court lawyer Fali S Nariman passes away at 95

Fali S Nariman, one of India's most eminent jurists, breathed his last at the age of 95 in New Delhi. Nariman, who began his legal career at the Bombay High Court in 1950, was designated senior counsel in 1961, and practiced law for over 70 years. Known for his unwavering commitment to principles, he made significant contributions to constitutional law, cross-examining key cases in both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.

In 1975, Fali S Nariman was appointed Additional Solicitor General of India, but he resigned from the post in June of the same year in protest against the declaration of emergency by the government led by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. His principled stand against the authoritarian measures of that era marked a pivotal moment in his illustrious career. Paying homage, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi described Nariman as a living legend, emphasizing his lasting impact on the legal and public spheres.
