Despite mixed global cues, the Indian indices opened higher on August 1 with Nifty above 25,000 for the first time. The Sensex was up 236.59 points or 0.29 percent at 81,977.93, and the Nifty was up 85.80 points or 0.34 percent at 25,037.00. About 1844 shares advanced, 551 shares declined, and 134 shares unchanged.
Maruti Suzuki, Hindalco, JSW Steel, Coal India, and ONGC were among the major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Hero MotoCorp, UltraTech Cement, Infosys, Sun Pharma, and Asian Paints.
