Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Ten residents, including seven Bangladeshi women, escaped after breaking the lock of a women’s shelter home in the Doltala area of Madhyamgram, triggering panic and raising serious questions over security arrangements. The incident created a stir in the locality, prompting immediate police action.
According to police sources, those who escaped included seven Bangladeshi women, two minors and one resident from West Bengal. The shelter home, located near Doltala, reportedly houses only female residents, with foreign nationals being sent there through the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Around midnight, the group allegedly broke open the main gate lock and fled despite attempts by security staff to stop them. The Madhyamgram Police Station was alerted soon after the escape. A night-long search operation was launched, and all 10 residents were eventually traced and rescued from Ganganagar Katakhal and nearby areas within the police station limits.
Police sources said the residents had been unhappy with the overall management of the shelter home for some time, and the escape was allegedly triggered by that discontent. Confirming the development, Durbar Banerjee said a case has been registered based on a complaint by the home authorities and that security lapses and management issues are being investigated.
