Seven suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators arrested from Murshidabad

Police from Jalangi arrested seven alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators from the Bidupur area under Jalangi police station in Murshidabad district on Monday night following a tip-off. According to police sources, all seven arrested individuals are residents of the Daulatpur police station area in Kushtia district of Bangladesh. After legal procedures, they were reportedly sent to the Lalgola Holding Center.

The arrests come days after three other suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators were detained from the Ranitala police station area in Murshidabad. The detained individuals were identified as Mohammad Selim, Mohammad Rubel and Shariful Islam. Police said the three failed to produce valid documents supporting their stay in India and were subsequently taken into custody.

Administrative sources said the state government recently issued fresh directives regarding illegal infiltration and the handling of detainees. Under the revised guidelines, suspected infiltrators detained in such cases are now being sent to special holding centres in Lalgola instead of being directly lodged in jail, which had been the earlier practice in many cases.

The latest arrests from Jalangi during the early hours of Tuesday increased surveillance activity in Murshidabad district. Authorities have intensified monitoring across border areas in Murshidabad and neighbouring Malda district to prevent illegal cross-border movement from Bangladesh. Police and security agencies are maintaining increased vigilance in vulnerable zones along the international border.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force has reportedly accelerated fencing work along nearly 21 kilometres of unfenced land near the Bangladesh border. Officials are focusing on strengthening border infrastructure and surveillance measures in areas identified as vulnerable to infiltration and illegal movement.
