Kolkata is experiencing significant traffic disruptions and a heavy police presence today as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) holds its mega 'Shahid Diwas' (Martyrs' Day) event in Dharmatala. Commuters planning to travel through central Kolkata are advised to be aware of the altered traffic routes and diversions, with several key arteries in and around Dharmatala either completely restricted or heavily controlled, leading to potential delays and congestion across the city.

The massive gathering, which has drawn thousands of TMC workers and supporters from across the state, has necessitated extensive security arrangements and traffic management protocols. Police personnel are deployed in large numbers, ensuring smooth execution of the rally while also attempting to minimize inconvenience for other city dwellers. However, disruptions are inevitable given the scale of the event.

To facilitate the movement of attendees and maintain law and order, several crucial roads leading to and surrounding the Dharmatala venue have been placed under strict traffic control. These measures include diversions, one-way systems, and in some cases, complete closures for general vehicular movement, particularly during peak rally hours.

Commuters are strongly advised to avoid the following routes today to prevent getting stuck in traffic: Amherst Street, Bidhan Sarani, College Street, Brabourne Road, Bentinck Street, Strand Road, BB Ganguly Street, and New CIT Road. Additionally, Rabindra Sarani is also expected to be heavily affected. These roads, being central to Kolkata's network, will see the most significant impact from the rally.
