Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar announced senior party leaders Supriya Sule and Praful Patel as the party's working presidents during an event in Delhi celebrating the NCP's 25th anniversary. The announcement was made in the presence of Pawar's nephew, Ajit Pawar.
Sharad Pawar, who founded the NCP on June 10, 1999, has been leading the party since its inception. The appointment of Sule and Patel as working presidents holds significance in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Earlier in May, there was a dramatic turn of events when Pawar expressed his intention to step down as NCP chief. However, the party's panel requested him to continue in the role, and his resignation was not accepted.
Supriya Sule, Pawar's daughter, has been taking on more significant responsibilities within the party as part of Pawar's succession plan. Despite protests from other party members, Sule remained calm when Pawar initially announced his decision to step down.
Sule entered politics in 2006 as a Rajya Sabha MP and later took charge of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, previously represented by her father. The future leadership of the party remains uncertain, and it is yet to be determined who will take over as the party's head.
