NCP leader Sharad Pawar addressed supporters in Karad, Maharashtra, vowing to rebuild the party after his nephew's factional coup
Pawar accused the BJP of using divisive tactics and emphasized the need to combat communal division and protect democracy
Maharashtra CM Ekanth Shinde stated the BJP would not fulfill rebel Shiv Sena MLAs' demands, while Sanjay Raut claimed Ajit Pawar would replace Shinde as CM
In a show of strength following a recent internal split within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), party leader Sharad Pawar addressed NCP workers and supporters in Karad, Maharashtra.
Pawar expressed his determination to rebuild the party after his nephew, Ajit Pawar, led a factional coup to become the deputy chief minister in the Eknath Shinde-led government. He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of employing divisive tactics to weaken other political parties, stating that some NCP members had fallen prey to these strategies.
During his speech, Pawar emphasized the importance of fighting against forces that aim to create a communal divide in Maharashtra and the country. He stressed the need to protect democracy and combat fear-mongering among peace-loving citizens.
Pawar's visit to the memorial of his mentor and Maharashtra's first chief minister, Yashwantrao Chavan, on the occasion of Guru Purnima was seen as a display of his political strength and determination.
Pawar's journey from Pune to Karad was met with overwhelming support from his followers, who gathered along the route to greet him. In Karad, he received a warm welcome from thousands of supporters and local NCP MLA Balasaheb Patil. Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan, who is also from Karad, was present during the event.
In response to the political developments, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde stated that the BJP would not fulfill all the demands of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs and expressed confidence that many of them would return to the Sena fold soon. Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut, an MP from Uddhav Thackeray's camp, claimed that Ajit Pawar would soon replace Eknath Shinde as the chief minister of Maharashtra.
Raut further mentioned that 16 MLAs who had split from Shiv Sena nearly a year ago would face disqualification. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress, to stand unitedly in Maharashtra.
