Roopa Ganguly arrested during protest of student's death in Bansdroni, gets bail
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha on Saturday defended West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s controversial remark, "if Bengal burns," which has sparked widespread debate. The statement, made during a public rally in Kolkata, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using his power to incite unrest in Bengal.
At the rally, Banerjee stated, "Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair." She emphasized the potential nationwide repercussions if unrest were to spread in Bengal.
Defending Banerjee, Sinha remarked, "As far as I know my 'Didi' (Mamata Banerjee), what she said was a very mature thing. She meant to say that if they are trying to instigate people over the Kolkata incident, the impact of this will not be limited to just West Bengal."
The BJP has continued to criticize the TMC government over its handling of the recent Kolkata rape and murder case, adding fuel to the ongoing political tension.
